چکیده

The immiscible displacement of a wetting fluid by a non-wetting one in heterogeneous porous media is modeled by using a multi-scale network-type analysis: (1) The pressure-controlled immiscible displacement of water by oil in pore-and-throat networks (length scale~1mm) is controlled by capillary forces. (2) The pressure-controlled immiscible displacement in uncorrelated or spatially correlated cubic lattices (length scale~1cm) is governed by capillary and gravity forces. At this scale, each node represents a network of the previous scale. (3) The rate-controlled immiscible displacement of water by oil in cubic networks (length scale~10cm), where each node represents a lattice of the previous scale, is simulated by accounting for capillary, gravity and viscous forces. The multi-scale approach along with the pore structure properties of soils can be employed to determine the transient responses of the pressure drop and axial distribution of water saturation, and estimate the effective (up-scaled) relative permeability functions, at the soil column scale.

A New Approach for Constructing Pore Network Model of Two Phase Flow in Porous Media

Development of pore network models for real porous media requires a detailed understanding of physical processes occurring on the microscopic scale and a complete description of porous media morphology. In this study, the microstructure of porous media has been represented by three dimensional networks of interconnected pores and throats which are designed by an object oriented approach. Af...

Numerical Simulation and Estimation of the Transvers Macrodispersivity Coefficient of Aqueous Phase (Miscible) Contaminants of Salt Water in a Heterogeneous and Homogeneous Porous Media

Deterioration of groundwater resources in coastal regions due to the progression of saline water in aquifers in these regions is currently one of the important issues in providing water needs in these areas. In coastal regions, saline water enters the aquifer from below in shape of wedge. Due to the difference in the density between fresh and salty water, an interface zone forms between two flu...

Multi-scale modelling of two-phase-two-component processes in heterogeneous porous media

Flow and transport phenomena in porous media are the governing processes in many natural and industrial systems. Not only do these flow and transport phenomena occur on different space and time scales, but it is also the porous medium itself which is heterogeneous where the heterogeneities are present on all spatial scales. We consider a large domain with randomly distributed heterogeneities wh...

Comparison of Thermal Dispersion Effects for Single and two Phase Analysis of Heat Transfer in Porous Media

The present work involves numerical simulation of a steady, incompressible forcedconvection fluid flow through a matrix of porous media between two parallel plates at constanttemperature. A Darcy model for the momentum equation was employed. The mathematical model forenergy transport was based on single phase equation model which assumes local thermal equilibriumbetween fluid and solid phases. ...

A Novel Approach to Measuring Water and Oil Relative Permeabilities in Two-phase Fluid Flow in Porous Media

In this study, direct laboratory measurements of unsteady-state imbibition test are used in a new approach to obtain relative permeability curves with no predetermined functionality assumptions. Four equations of continuity, Darcy’s law, cumulative oil production, and water fractional flow are employed in combination together under certain assumptions to present the new approach which interpret...
